Hull & Exterior — Before & After

Results

The houseboat received a complete exterior restoration with repaired hull corners, eliminated mold, resealed seams throughout, and fresh protective coating. All water intrusion points were addressed. The vessel is structurally sound and protected against the elements for years of use on the water.

Project Overview

This houseboat came to Nations RV & Marine in need of comprehensive exterior restoration. Years of exposure to water, weather, and sun had taken a toll on the hull, deck, roof, and wall surfaces. The exterior showed widespread damage including deteriorated paint and coating, mold growth on the roof and upper surfaces, failing seams between panels, and structural damage at the hull corners where the protective coating had broken down.

Our team began with a thorough inspection, marking every area of damage on the hull, deck, and roof. The hull corners showed the most significant deterioration — the original protective coating had cracked and peeled, exposing the underlying material to moisture. The corner joint where the hull meets the cabin wall had separated, allowing water intrusion. Mold had colonized the roof surface and was spreading along areas where moisture collected.

The restoration plan addressed every exterior surface. We started with the hull, repairing the damaged corners by cleaning back to sound material, rebuilding the joint, and applying new structural bonding. The deck was prepped by removing loose material and cleaning down to a solid surface. Roof damage was addressed by removing mold, treating affected areas, and repairing deteriorated decking.

Seam repair was critical throughout the project. Every joint between wall panels, at the hull-to-cabin transition, and along the deck edges was cleaned, prepped, and resealed. Interior seams accessible from the cabin were also addressed to create a complete moisture barrier.

For protection, we applied a textured finish coating system across the repaired areas and wrapped exposed surfaces to shield them during the curing process. The hull received a fresh protective coating, and the deck and roof surfaces were sealed against future moisture intrusion.

The houseboat was completed dockside, where our team performed final touchup work and verified that all repairs were watertight. The vessel left with a restored exterior, sound structure, and protection against the elements.

The Challenge

The houseboat had extensive exterior deterioration from prolonged exposure to water and weather. Hull corners showed structural damage where protective coating had failed. Mold had spread across the roof. Panel seams had separated throughout the exterior, and the deck surface was breaking down. The work needed to be completed with the vessel docked.

Our Solution

Our team performed a full exterior restoration: hull corner repair with structural bonding, mold remediation and roof treatment, comprehensive seam sealing at every panel joint, and application of protective coating across all repaired surfaces. Interior seams were also addressed to create a complete moisture barrier. A textured finish was applied for durability.
